How I Romanticize the Simple Life as a Mom of Four
My house is loud. Most days I’m moving from one thing to the next without much of a break in between. And somewhere in the middle of all that, I started romanticizing my life anyway.
Not in a candles-and-perfect-morning kind of way. I don’t have time for that, and honestly, it would stress me out. I mean the small stuff. The little moments I started actually paying attention to instead of rushing through. It didn’t change my schedule. It just changed how the days feel.

Small Ways I Romanticize Everyday
I make the ordinary thing a little nicer. Same matcha I always drink, but in a pretty mug. The candle lit while I’m cooking, even if dinner is nothing special. It costs nothing and takes no extra time, but it makes a regular Tuesday feel more special.
I let the quiet moments be the good ones. For a long time I thought a good day had to be a productive one. Now I think it might just be a quiet kitchen and the people I love walking through it. An after-school snack on the counter — usually these energy bites the kids ask for. A show on in the background. Nobody needing anything for five whole minutes.
I treat my loungewear like it matters. I don’t think enough people say it: what you wear at home changes your whole day. Even if I’m not going anywhere. Even if it’s a stay-home, meal-prep, work-on-my-stuff kind of day — putting on a loungewear set I actually love makes everything feel better. Right now I’m loving Aerie pieces — they’re so soft I don’t want to take them off. And it doesn’t have to cost a lot. I just replace the old stuff little by little. One nice set at a time, and suddenly staying home feels like a treat instead of an afterthought.
I stop trying to earn the rest. I used to feel like the house needed to be perfect before I sat down. I don’t wait anymore. The laundry will be there. I give myself time to enjoy a little bit of me time.
I pay attention to the season we’re in. Not the Pinterest version — the real one. The sound of 6 people coexisting and loving each other. Kids running down the stairs and laughter in my home while we make pancakes on Sunday mornings. The chaos of everyone home at once. Someday this exact kind of busy is going to be the thing I miss, and I don’t want to have rushed through all of it.
